The 1st stage of the 1st edition of Setmana Ciclista Valenciana turned out to be a slightly technical 6.6 kilometre TTT where the top teams probably did not want to risk too much. BePink grabbed a relatively surprising victory and become the team to be beaten tomorrow, although it seems unlikely any of the Italian riders can hold the jersey. But that story has to wait another day.
The actual start was too eagerly awaited, as a technical problem (the chronometer crashed and it took around 20 minutes to fix it) delayed the start of the Russian National Team, 1st team at the start line, and consequently of the other 26 teams.

The sunny streets of Vila-real did not witness many spectators, but probably audience will increase as days go by. The race, after the narrow differences settled today in the TTT, looks really interesting for the stages to come, particularly the one held tomorrow in Gandía, which is the theoretically “queen stage”, with 110k and 2 mountain difficulties which have to break the race and where no doubt the strongest teams will try to play their winning cards. Wind can also play a key-role tomorrow.
